Thermal and acoustic insulation: lower bills, a quieter home

A good window keeps warmth in during winter, heat out in summer and noise outside. Three things matter most: a multi-chamber profile, the right glass package and professional installation.

  • Ug 0.5 – 0.6 W/m²K
  • Argon and low-E coatings
  • Sound insulation up to 45 dB
  • Ready for energy renovation

Profiles

Multi-chamber profiles: S 8000 and S 9000

Air trapped in the profile chambers conducts heat poorly. The deeper the profile and the more sealing levels it has, the less heat escapes and the less noise gets in.

Glass packages

The glass does most of the work

Glass makes up most of a window’s surface, so it has the biggest effect on heat loss. Modern packages combine three things: more panes, a noble gas in the cavity and invisible low-E coatings that reflect heat back into the room.

  • Triple glazing: Ug 0.5 – 0.6 W/m²K
  • Argon in the cavity — conducts heat less than air
  • Low-E coatings reflect heat radiation back into the room
  • Warm-edge (plastic) spacer reduces condensation at the glass edge

Ug describes the glass only. What counts for the whole window is Uw (glass + profile + spacer), which we state in your quote.

Noise level in the room
  • Busy street noise (outside)70 dB
  • Behind standard double glazing (Rw ≈ 32 dB)38 dB
  • Behind triple glazing (Rw ≈ 36 dB)34 dB
  • Behind acoustic VSG glass (Rw up to 45 dB)25 dB

Acoustic insulation

How much noise stays outside?

A window’s sound insulation depends mostly on the glass. Acoustic laminated glass (VSG with an acoustic interlayer) and asymmetric pane thicknesses also damp the low tones of traffic.

Illustrative example for 70 dB of outside noise. A reduction of 10 dB is perceived as roughly half as loud. Actual results depend on glazing, window size and installation.

Buyer’s guide

Buyer’s guide & energy renovation

  1. Compare Uw, not just Ug

The glass value sounds better, but the whole window decides your bills. Ask for Uw at your window size.

  2. Check profile and seals

Profile depth, number of chambers and sealing levels decide how well the window keeps heat and noise out.

  3. Choose glass by orientation and noise

Triple glazing for north sides and cold rooms, acoustic glass on busy streets.

  4. Installation is half the window

Even the best window loses heat if the joint with the wall is not sealed properly.

Energy renovation and grants

For properties in Croatia, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund (FZOEU) periodically publishes calls for the energy renovation of family houses, which can co-finance window replacement. Conditions and amounts change from call to call.

Check current conditions on the FZOEU website or with an energy certifier. We are happy to prepare the documents for your application.
